Hasbro and Avalon Hill bring us “Hero Quest” a remake of the old and extremely popular fantasy dungeon crawler game.
This remake plays the same as the original, with only minor tweaks to meet modern standards. These include updated artwork, male and female character models, a world map to explore, and brand-new monster types.
In this game for 2 to 5 players, one player assumes the role of the Dungeon Master and guides the other players (up to 4) through a dungeon on a board while engaging in a series of connected quests to finish an adventure (or Quest Pack) that will be played over several sessions while battling classic tropes like orcs and zombies.
The game rules are simple and involve rolling mobility dice, combat dice, and looking for traps and hidden passages to accomplish the quest's goal and vanquish the evil sorcerer (interpreted by the Dungeon Master).
Hero Quest is not entirely obliging. The Dungeon Master is in charge of all opponents, but he also introduces the heroes to their journey and sets up the board with all of the enemies.
